JMS 8 boys win track title

BOYD – Jacksboro Middle School’s boys track teams finished first and fourth at the District 8-3A Meet April 6.

The 7th grade boys were fourth overall, led by Colt Kaker’s win in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:02.63. The 400-meter relay foursome of Trent Irwin, Colt Kaker, Moises Quiroz and Gage Owen were second in 54.69 as was Jacob Rushin in the high jump with a 4’8” effort.

Finishing third was the 800-meter relay foursome of Irwin, Kaker, Quiroz and Owen in 1:55.88. Finishing fourth was the 1,600-meter relay of Owen, Tanner Burby, Caleb Howard and Rushin with a 4:31.15 time and Bryce Petre in the 1,600-meter run with a 5:41.22. 

Petre broke the school record for the second time in the 2,400 meter run, finishing 5th in 9:20.16. Burby was also fifth in the high jump with a 4’6” try. Josh Pierce was 5th in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:43.19. Domanik Hammond was 6th in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.8 seconds.

“We capped off the 2017 track season with our best night of the year,” Coach Brian Davenport said. “Bryce Petre broke the school record again in his 2400 M run. Our relays ran much better. Colt Kaker ran the open quarter, and beat the field. I am very impressed with the entire team’s hard work this season."
