JHS track hosts district meet

Jacksboro had a solid first day at the District 8-3A Meet with several field athletes qualifying for area.

On the field, Cody Gary won the shotput with a 45’2 1/2”. Kade Weldon won the discus with a 153’6” throw with fellow senior Riley Rollans second with a 148’3”. The top four in each event qualify for the area meet, held in Jacksboro April 20.

On the girls side, freshman Baylee Thompson won the discus and finished second in the shotput. Leah Plaster was third in the shot and fifth in the discus. Mariana Espinoza was fifth in the shotput.

Senior Kaylea Maples won the triple jump and was third in the long jump. Britney Crye was sixth in the long jump.

One running event had its finals Monday with preliminaries held in the other running events. Javier Palomar was 5th in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:02.71.

Running finals are set to begin Thursday at 5 p.m.
