JHS softball splits pair of games

NOCONA – One down, two to go.

As Jacksboro’s varsity softballers head into the final week of the regular season with still an outside chance at a playoff spot, Coach John Bennett and the players knew they would have to win out and get some help in order to qualify.

Step one of that process began April 14 here, the Tigerettes pounding out 20 hits and taking advantage of six Lady Indian errors in a 23-7, five-inning win over the hostesses. Jacksboro went to 5-7 in District 8-3A with the win while keeping Nocona winless in the loop.

The visitors struck quick, scoring seven runs in the opening frame. Trinity Tisdale started the hit parade by beating out an infield single to open the two hour affair. A stolen base and a shortstop’s error, which allowed Destiny Thompson aboard, put the pair in scoring position.

Both scored, as another shortstop’s miscue allowed Maylan Armstrong to reach third. A groundout plated Armstrong for a 3-0 lead.
