JHS girls win, boys fall vs. Henrietta

Thu, 01/19/2017 - 8:40 pm

Jacksboro managed a split with visiting Henrietta Thursday afternoon as District 8-3A action continued.

Both games were rescheduled from Tuesday due to the death of a JHS student.

On the girls side, an 11-0 run by the Tigerettes broke open what was a close game and gave Jacksboro a sweep of the Lady ‘Cats with a 51-36 win. Jacksboro is now 7-1 in district action and 22-5 overall with Henrietta falling to 2-6 and 10-14.

The Purple took a five-point lead into the fourth quarter, 38-33 and used buckets from Haley Laake and Jaymee Yount and free throws from Kaylea Maples, Laake and Baylee Thompson to go up 49-33. Henrietta would snap the run but would get no closer in scoring just three points in the fourth quarter.

The Tigerettes led 12-10 after one and 27-22 at the half. Thompson led Jacksboro with 13 points with Yount contributing 12. Hollie Thomas paced the Lady ‘Cats with 16 points.

On the boys side, a solid defensive effort, where Jacksboro held the visitors to 24 percent shooting, was for naught in a tough 43-40 loss. The Tigers are now 1-5 and 10-15 with Henrietta now 4-2 in the loop and 12-8.

Jacksboro led 14-13 after one but the visitors outscored Jacksboro 8-1 in the second to take a 21-15 lead at intermission. The Tigers continued to hold their own, outscoring Henrietta 9-7 in the third and getting within one three times in the final minutes. Henrietta was 10-17 in the final quarter to hang on for the win.

“Our kids played with a lot of heart defensively and I’m proud of that,” Coach Eric Symank said. “We just couldn’t find the bucket when we needed to.”

Payton Laake tossed in 13 points to lead the hosts. Kardon Bennett paced Henrietta with 14 points with Ethan School adding 12.

Both Jacksboro teams head back to the hardwood Saturday with games at City View. JV action starts at noon with varsity girls set to tipoff around 3 p.m.
