Jacksboro football season ends

Fri, 11/11/2016 - 1:00 pm

DENTON – Jacksboro can take one positive out of Thursday night’s 57-14 bi-district loss to Gunter:

Courtesy of Santiago Salazar’s extra point following Hunter hackley’s 20-yard scoring run, the Purple led 7-6 after the first quarter.

No-3 Gunter took control after that, scoring 51 unanswered points over the next quarter and change to garner a 57-14 win at Denton High’s Bronco Field. Jacksboro ends its season at 6-5 with Gunter moving on to face the winner of Hooks-Live Oak at 11-0.

Gunter got on the board first with an 80-yard drive. The Purple followed with a 75-yard, 12-play series, capped by the Hackley run, which happened on 3rd-and-10.

Jacksboro then looked to go for the throat by recovering an onside kick. The drive went nowhere and Jacksboro was forced to punt. Gunter took the lead for good with an 84-yard, five-play drive, culminating in Dylan Jantz’s second touchdown of the game from 36 yards out.

Gunter led 28-7 before scoring 29 points in a less than three minute span of the third quarter, two touchdowns coming via Jacksboro fumbles, to begin pulling away. Officials ran the clock continuously from that point.

Jacksboro ended the scoring in the final minute, the Purple ending a 65-yard drive with Payton Laake and Kole Weldon combining on a 15-yard strike. Salazar was again true with the conversion try.
