Jacksboro boys ready for Nocona
One step down, four more to take.
After a convincing win in its District 5-3A Division II opener last Friday, Jacksboro is looking to take the next step toward a district title Friday night when Nocona pays a visit to Tiger Stadium. The Indians (5-1, 0-1) are coming off a 56-14 loss to Holliday.
Jacksboro Coach Brannon Rodgers said the loss is not indicative of the team Nocona truly is.
“Nocona had a game Friday where everything that could go wrong did,” Rodgers offered. “They are much better than that game suggests. They are as explosive offensively with the ability to have a big play at any moment while defensively they are aggressive. We need to stay focused on the big plays to avoid getting burned.”
Nocona has a balanced attack, averaging almost 400 yards a game against primarily Class 2A foes with a slight edge in the passing game per contest (219 to 181.) Quarterback Jeremy James, a four-year starter at quarterback, had his best passing night of the year last Friday in the loss, going 18-32 for 253 yards with a touchdown and three picks.
