Jacksboro boys, girls compete in tournaments

Jacksboro’s girls and boys continue tournament play in Lubbock and Albany this weekend.

The girls posted two wins Thursday in the Caprock Classic in Lubbock, both by the same score of 42-30 over Morton and Lubbock Christian. In the opener Thursday morning vs. Morton, Jacksboro got out to a 15-12 lead with junior Jordan Nichols coming through with six points and Baylee Thompson five. Trinity Tisdale and Leah Plaster each had two points.

The Tigerettes outscored Morton 14-7 in the second for a 29-19 lead at the half. Nichols and Tisdale had four points each with Thompson, Plaster, and Haley Laake each having two points.

Both offenses went into the deep freeze in the second half, Jacksboro outscoring Morton 5-4 in the third and 8-7 in the fourth. Laake had all five third-quarter points. Thompson had four points in the fourth with Nichols and Plaster each having two points. Nichols led the Purple with 12 points with Thompson adding 11. Alyssa Rodriguez had eight points for Morton.

In Thursday’s nightcap, the Tigerettes again got off to a solid start, leading 15-1 after one. Thompson had six points to pace the squad with Nichols adding five along with Tisdale and senior Jaymee Yount having two points each. Lubbock Christian came back to outscore Jacksboro 11-10 in the second but was still down 25-12 at intermission. Tisdale, Laake, Brinkley Richardson, Yount and Plaster each had two points.

The Tigerettes tossed in 15 third-quarter points to lead 40-22 going into the fourth. Yount had five points with Thompson four with Laake adding three, Plaster two and Tisdale a free throw. Laake had the only bucket of the fourth for the Purple but Jacksboro held on for the win.

Thompson had 10 points and Yount nine for Jacksboro, which will face Geelong in a 4:30 p.m. game Friday at Lubbock Estacado.

The boys have had a rougher time in Albany, going 0-3 so far. The Tigers lost to Munday in Thursday’s opener, 45-43. Payton Laake had 15 points with Clay Botello adding 13.

The squad also lost to the hosts, 58-36 in Thursday’s second game. Laake had 16 points and Dalton Harp nine.

In Friday’s opener, the squad suffered a 56-44 setback to the Abilene Hawks, a homeschooled team. Harp had 16 points and Botello 14.

The squad faced Cross Plains in Friday’s second game. No results were available as of this posting.
