Henrietta sweeps past Jacksboro

Tue, 04/11/2017 - 11:01 pm

Jacksboro’s baseball and softball teams were swept by visiting Henrietta Tuesday evening.

The Tigerette softball team fell victim to an 11-run fifth inning by the district leading and 10th-ranked Lady ‘Cats in a 20-2 loss, which dropped Jacksboro to 4-7 in District 8-3A and 9-16 overall. Henrietta is now 10-1 and 21-3.

The Tigerettes scored both their runs in the third with a two-out rally. Trinity Tisdale doubled and Destiny Thompson singled, the pair coming home on Maylan Armstrong’s single. Tisdale would added another base hit in the fifth but a pair of groundouts ended the game on mercy rule.

On the boys side, Jacksboro got a solid performance on the mound from Clay Botello but picked up just three hits offensively in a 3-1 loss. Botello scattered five hits and struck out 10 with just one walk.

Jacksboro is now part of at least a four way tie for first in District 8-3A at 6-3 along with Henrietta, Boyd and Holliday.

Henrietta would pick up a single run in the second but the Tigers would come back with a run in the third. Zach Hamm was safe on a fielder’s choice and used a sacrifice, a passed ball and Lathan Lowrance’s single to tie the game at one.

Henrietta then scored twice in the fifth with Bearcat southpaw Weston Max slamming the door from there, retiring the last seven he faced.

Both Jacksboro teams head to Nocona Friday. First pitch for both the baseball and softball teams is at 1 p.m.
