Girls win, boys fall at City View Saturday

WICHITA FALLS – Saturday’s number of the day was 53.

Jacksboro’s varsity girls maintained their hold on second place in District 8-3A with a 53-8 win over host City View while the boys also scored 53 points ... and fell eight short of the Mustangs in a 61-53 loss.

Jacksboro’s girls are 8-1 in the loop and 23-5 overall while the Lady Mustangs are 0-9 and 3-23.

The Tigerettes pitched two shutouts in the game, allowing zero points in both the 1st and 3rd quarters. Jacksboro got out to a 21-0 lead after one and extended it to 34-3 at the half. With a running clock in the second half, the Purple extended the lead to 40, 44-4 after three quarters.

Jacksboro was paced by freshman BayleeThompson with 12 points. The balanced scoring continued with Trinity Tisdale and Haley Laake adding nine each and Kaylea Maples eight.

The Tigers ended the first round of district play with another tough hard fought loss dropping the squad to 1-6 and 10-16. The Mustangs are 4-3 and 12-11 and avenged an earlier loss to Jacksboro in the Archer City Tourney.

City View got out to a 13-2 lead after four minutes but the Tigers held tough and were down seven, 16-9 after one. City View outscored the visitors 11-9 in the second for a 27-18 halftime cushion.

Jacksboro doubled their first half output in the third, scoring 18 points to help cut the deficit to six, 42-36 heading into the fourth.

Payton Laake had 22 points to lead Jacksboro. Tyler Rogers and Ke’Ondrae Sadler each had 10 points.

Both Jacksboro teams remain on the road next week, playing at Holliday Tuesday and Bowie Friday.
