Thu, 01/25/2018 - 1:02 pm

WINDTHORST – Jacksboro’s 8th grade ‘A’ boys basketball team picked up its first win of the year in a tournament here Saturday but wound up second.

The boys opened with a 27-18 win over Quanah. Jacksboro led 7-0 at the quarter and 17-1 at the half. The Indians outscored Jacksboro 6-4 and 11-6 over the final two quarters but the Tigers held on for the win.

Devon Green tossed in 13 points for the Tigers with Cody Frie and Jacob Rushin scoring six points each. Trent Irwin added two points. Green and Irwin were named top rebounders with Gage Owen and Frie noted for their defense in the game.

“We got our first victory of the year,” Coach Brian Davenport said. “We came out and executed our man offense really well. We found scoring opportunities to our advantage and made Quanah pay. Devon Green asserted himself down low early. It really helped us get going. Cody Frie played well and handled pressure well. It was a lot of fun seeing these kids be successful.”
