Basketball … and pancakes

BRYSON – There’s a lot to be said for the humble pancake.

It’s portable, which when covering events is a definite plus; you can wrap other things in it such as bacon and sausage.

It also brings good crowds out to Cowboy Gym for a worthy cause.

I wish I would have known about the early start time or I might have gone that route. Nah, what fun is that?

I’m a pancake purist, a little bit of butter and I’m off and running. It’s not like I’m running around with a plate drowning in syrup.

When it’s Senior Night, I need to be agile and mobile and ready to move. Still, you don’t maintain a body like mine if you don’t eat.

Thank goodness they had the ceremony before the game. Both teams had a fair amount of seniors this year but not quite like the boys, who have nine seniors among their 12-member squad.

I do wish I had more time to actually eat a meal like a human being but welcome to the job. I’ll hold my pancake and shoot pics while doing stats all at the same time. I got some looks from the Bryson administrative team but they know after many years just to roll with it.

Be interesting to see how the Cowboys hold up next year as the squad has had a solid season this year and will more than likely finish behind both Graford and Perrin.

Now that the basketball playoffs are almost here, we are not too far away from what I call “the outside” sports. This is another good thing for us “foodies.” Springtime, sans COVID, means track meets, time spent outdoors and burgers.

While there is nothing wrong with promotion, I have to admit I do miss JHS Principal Brad Burnett (now Assistant Superintendent) firing up the grill at the concession stand. Burgers and dogs at a ball game is just straight tradition that I will never break.

I’ll continue supporting the kids that need the support through fundraising, game coverage, or however it needs to be done. Maybe if they see me doing it, they’ll be more apt to work with kids down the road.

That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for reading.
