Baseball team opens season at home

Thu, 03/02/2017 - 11:42 am

Jacksboro’s varsity baseballers finished 1-3-1 in its tournament last weekend.

The squad opened Thursday with a 17-6, three-inning win over Cisco. Hunter Drennan picked up the win on the hill, striking out seven, walking seven and allowing just two singles before being relieved by Payton Laake. Laake struck out one and walked one in 2/3 inning of relief.

Drennan had control problems throughout the day, walking two and hitting another to load the sacks in the first. The senior battled back, however, and struck out the next two hitters to end the frame.

The Tigers scored three in the bottom of the frame. Ty Kennedy reached following a strikeout and advanced on a Lathan Lowrance infield single. A wild pitch plated Kennedy with Drennan’s double to left center making the score 2-0.

Courtesy runner Jacob Hull came home on a groundout to end the scoring. After the Loboes left a pair holding the bag in the second, the Tigers blew things open with a 14-run frame. Kennedy, Caleb Nunley, Zach Hamm and Clay Botello all had RBI base hits in the frame.
