Perrin HS administration, seniors discuss graduation

Mon, 05/04/2020 - 5:43 pm

Perrin High School administration, seniors and senior parents met through Zoom Wednesday, April 29, to discuss the schools options for hosting an in-person graduation.

Perrin High School Principal Loren Sell led the meeting and discussed two options to host graduation at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 22.

“If we have a 50% occupancy rule (in place,) I would say my first thought is to have graduation in the gym just as traditionally as we possibly can,” Sell said. “What that would entail, we would take the seating capacity of the gym divide it in half and then divide that number by 15. There’s 14 seniors graduating, but of course there is staff and board members that have to be there.”

He said he believes this would allow for 10 people to attend per graduate.

The High School principal said the other option would be to hold the ceremony on the football field.

“We would have a lot more space, we could space people out. We could do some different things there where the number would not be limited as much,” Sell said. “Of course you do have some problems with having a scheduled function outside, who knows what May 22 weather is going to be like.”

After gaging the consensus, Sell said district administration will focus on an outdoor ceremony, but will continue to examine all aspects and suggestions before making a final decision on the ceremony in the first week of May.
