The first old white woman to… Do something first

The first old white woman to… Do something first

The morning news programs and talk shows are full of praise for men and women who were the first of their race, their religion, their graduating class, etc. to do something. Of course, we have the first woman Vice President… but she is also the first Black and/or Asian to be Vice President of the United States. She’s not the first child of immigrants… several of the founding fathers were children of immigrants and immigrants themselves. Think: Alexander Hamilton, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, even George Washington, although born in the colonies and qualified to hold the highest office was a child of immigrants. So, it’s not such a big deal that Kamala Harris is a child of immigrants. Her real “first” has to do with being a woman Vice President of the United States.

Folks know me best around town as the sports guy, not knowing that I have done some news for the entire time I’ve been here.

Others know me straight for my county work at commissioners court and some area school boards and had no clue I even delved into sports.

Those worlds have melded into one over the last several months, as now I’m doing it all (or trying to in any case). I’ve had some help in to what to focus on and what not to.

Controlling your world when all about you are non-functioning

Controlling your world when all about you are non-functioning

For most of us, our coffee tables and end tables, the arms of our chairs, or the floor around and under most furniture is cluttered with not one, but several remote controls. Most of them are black, around six or seven inches long, and about as wide as the palm of a human hand. They fit comfortably in our hands so easily that we end up carrying them into another room, carrying them to the car with us, or maybe even dropping them in the garbage with that stack of mail from the afore mentioned chairs, tables, and floor.
