Hunting traffic picks up in Post Oak

Mon, 10/10/2016 - 6:27 pm
In and Around Post Oak

Here it is a lonely Sunday night as I begin my visit with you. The weather has the feel that fall is in the air and everything is quiet this evening along Post Oak road. There is no traffic which is unusual. I think I notice the quiet because this weekend there has been more traffic than usual most of the week. I think with 2127 closed part of the week more traffic has traveled Post Oak road.

The hunters have been on the road more as the hunting season becomes closer. They have to clean their camps and bring in the things that are not permanent at their hunting spot. Fall is sure on its way. This weekend I have heard some target practice across the road and the cats have stayed on their side and have been here for all their feedings.

The weather is getting cooler and the nights longer. There is a frosty feeling in the air in the morning. Winter is on its way. I have seen the fuzzy-tailed squirrels hunting pecans in the trees in the front yard, but I think the pickings are very small. Most of the pecans have worms and I’m sure the squirrels know that. There has been a skunk hunting around the yard in the late evening. He has been around the cats’ bowl. I just let him go away when he wants to because I sure do not want him angry at me.

Friday my youngest grandson and his girlfriend came from Weatherford for a visit with me. Carter and Cindy are students at Weatherford College. Since I lived in Weatherford for two years many years ago, we had to discuss the changes that have taken place since I moved back to Post Oak. Of course he likes to get out in the pasture and hunt or fish or just see the weeds and rocks.

He had a little time off and just had to come visit and make his grandma happy. His grandpa Gullege takes him fishing in Nebraska or somewhere in the northern states every summer which he enjoys, but he likes the Post Oak countryside also.

Busy Bees meeting on Thursday to quilt were — Clydene Webb, Elsie and Maurice Graham. Gena Phillips, Nelda Hopkins, Helga Cross, Eunice Frost, and myself. Now that the Lone Star has been completed and ready for the next quilt show we are quilting on other quilts and have in one for Gena Phillips at this time.

Nancy Conner spent a few days with her grandchildren Audrey and Ian Smith of Alvarado while their parents Stephanie and Shawn were on vacation.

Thought for the week — a coincidence is a small miracle where God chose to remain anonymous. Have a good week.
