Bland looks to rejoin coaching ranks in Perrin

PERRIN – Everyone needs a break now and then.

New Perrin Volleyball Coach Rebekah Bland took a two-year respite from coaching, taking a teaching job in Lohn outside of Brady. She said she just needed a chance to “breathe” during that time.

The chance to work with Superintendent Cliff Gilmore, who was her Superintendent during a 10-year stint in Aspermont, was intriguing. Coming back to an area where she was familiar, and with her working at Millsap for a time, helped close the deal.

“I came back (to coaching) because I love it,” Bland said. “Mr. Gilmore was my superintendent and I truly adore him. I loved coaching; the opportunity was here and I’m ready to go again.”

Bland will be the fourth coach in four years for the Lady Pirates, which she admits will be tough. She has met a couple of girls who say they want some stability.
