Walkoff 5-4 win over Graford secures spot

MINERAL WELLS – Another year, another walk-off win.

For the second year in a row, Bryson and Graford played a District 13-2A tiebreaker game to determine the second and final playoff representative. For the second year in a row, Graford had a lead into the seventh inning which they lost, allowing the Cowboys a 5-4 victory Monday night at Pratt Field.

Graford ends its year at 6-8 with Bryson moving on to the postseason with an 8-5 ledger. The Cowboys will receive a bye this weekend but will face familiar foe Avalon in the area round next weekend.

Graford retook the lead at 4-3 with a pair of seventh-inning runs, using aggressive baserunning to get the second run home to take the lead after singles by Rode Newton and Jacob Moss got the inning started. Newton was later forced at home to allow Micah Manley aboard.

James Kincaid then grounded out but the throw home was not in time to get Moss. Remi Shields, who was hit by an Ethan Robinson pitch, took advantage of some inattention to come home as well and give the Jackrabbits the lead.
