Thu, 02/08/2018 - 11:58 am

BRYSON – The Cowboys basketball team is still in the thick of the playoff hunt and picked up two huge wins over teams ahead of them in the standings over the last week.

Throckmorton brought a 5-1 record, its only loop loss to Graford, into Cowboy Gym Feb. 2. The squads tied at seven after one but a 19-3 uprising in the second quarter enabled the hosts to pull away and post a 55-38 victory, putting the Cowboys at 3-4 and the Greyhounds at 5-2 in district.

With Bryson leading 26-10 at the half, the hosts extended their lead by outscoring Throckmorton 21-13 in the third, taking advantage of some cold shooting by the ‘Hounds, to take a 47-23 lead into the fourth frame.

Throckmorton shot just 19 percent for the game with Bryson converting 36 percent of its shots. Senior Braden Houser had 23 points and 10 rebounds for the ‘Pokes. Jon Alaniz added nine points while Dillon Orr, Tristan Stephens, and Xander Tinney contributed six each. Paxton Whitaker tossed in five.
