Perrin defeats Bryson

Thu, 12/07/2017 - 1:10 am

PERRIN – Brigham Richardson was not an offensive force Saturday. He just came through in the clutch.

Perrin’s senior guard had the Pirates’ first point and was not heard from again until his Pirates led 40-38 with 42 seconds left. Richardson calmly hit nothing but net on two free throws to extend the lead to four and help his squad take third place honors with a 44-38 win over Bryson in the Perrin Tournament.

The Pirates are now 2-5 for the season and helped get Coach Max Hefner his 50th win. The first-year mentor said his players are starting to buy into what he is teaching.

“Things are starting to click for us,” Hefner said. “They’re beginning to figure me out in a lot of things.”

The Pirates are starting to cut down on their turnovers after having 36 in a game at Prairie Valley recently. Perrin averaged less than 15 a game in the tournament.

“That’s a testament to their hard work and being sponges right now which is a good thing,” Hefner explained.
