Kidd hosts event

JACKSBORO – The Jack County Sheriffs Posse Arena was brought to life Sunday, October 25th as Wild West Promotions put together a well organized 4D barrel race attracting over 175 riders. More than $5,000.00 in cash and awards was paid out in the single day event.

Bryson teachers undergoing training, board talks dual credit

BRYSON – Many teachers are learning how to give their own tests much like what the TEKS test is given, trying to understand what they want.

Training to be given by Region 9 next month will help teachers to just that. Three teachers from the school, one from elementary, junior high and high school, will learn how to analyze data and to make their test questions more like what is being given on the State Assessment on the test assessment, according to Superintendent Greg London.

Springer hosts town hall meeting

State Senate candidate and present State Representative Drew Springer spoke to Jack County Republicans Oct. 12 on his candidacy.

Springer, who represents District 68 in the Legislature, is running for Pat Fallon’s District 30 seat in the Senate vs. Shelley Luther. The runoff date for that election is Dec. 19 with early voting Dec. 9.

District 30 serves all of Archer, Clay, Cooke, Erath, Grayson, Jack, Montague, Palo Pinto, Parker, Wichita, Wise and Young counties, and portions of Collin and Denton counties.

ChiliFest and car show

Things are heating up at the Jacksboro Chamber of Commerce as they prepare to kick off deer season and their hunting industry with the 2020 Chamber Chilifest & Classic Car Show.

The event will be held on the Historic Jacksboro Downtown Square Saturday, Nov. 14th, from 4 – 8 pm. It will include a cookoff for the best chili and fixings, vendor booths for shopping, and close out with live entertainment and dancing from area favorite and upcoming country artist Matt Wayne.

ESL program discussed at JISD board meeting

An English as a Second Language program official spoke to the Jacksboro Independent School District board during its October meeting.

Misti Thompson developed the program at Jacksboro Elementary and has seen it spread over all three campuses. Onehundred sixty four students are considered limited english proficient at the campuses, 96 at JES, 36 at JMS and 32 at JHS, according to Thompson.

In the healthy dessert category, Kenadee Sell won healthy dessert with Jillian McCurry second.In the intermediate division, Patton Fry won appetizer, Rayann Conner won side dish and Raileigh Flaniken main dish with Jayd Solomon second.Senior division was Kaylee Flaniken won the main dish competition.

Vet Day

With the COVID-19 virus cancelling the Veteran's Day ceremony this year, Jacksboro schools are working on several things to remember the veterans but everything will be virtual. Here, third grade students work on their song and dance.

 

Pack the pickup

A Jacksboro tradition is scheduled Nov. 4-6 with the Lions Pack the Pickup event benefitting the Jack County Food Pantry. The event will take place from 3-6 p..m. all three days at Lowe’s Markets. Several school organizations and the general public helped donate for a record donation last year. Nonperishable donations and cash are welcomed.
