Members of Lindsey State Jail opted to make inmates here have a nicer Christmas than they might have by stocking up on some snacks and passing them out tp the inmates. Lindsey State Jail wishes the general public a Happy New Year.

Klassy Klogger classes

The Klassy Kloggers will offer free beginner clogging lessons during the month of January! The classes will be held at 5:45 p. m. each Monday starting on January 11th.

The address is 701 Narrow St., Weatherford, Texas (Harberger Hill Community Center). You do not have to perform if you do not wish to.

Remember December

My longtime friend Bill Carey with Striper Express has a saying, “Remember December” that he often mentions. He’s referring to the awesome striper fishing that occurs during the winter months at Lake Texoma. Earlier this week, my good friend Jeff Rice and I joined Bill for an awesome day on the water.

Work continues on Twin Lakes Activity Center

Improvements on the inside of Twin Lakes Activity Center continue with the hopes of some terrific announcements in 2021.

City Manager Mike Smith said with the hiring of Will Mangum as parks and recreation director, over the last six weeks plans for the center are being discussed. Before anything is finalized, money needs to come available. Smith told the council at their regular meeting this is a “30,000-foot vision of what is to come.

Teacher shows his active classroom

Craig Parson is in his second year as a Biology I teacher and JHS and says he loves his job.

He loves his job so much he invited JHS Principal Starla Sanders to see why.

“He has a very active classroom,” Sanders said.

As part of his featured teacher presentation before the Jacksboro ISD Board at its meeting Dec. 14 he showed a video of his students and how they’re learning in the classroom. They discussed what osmosis and DNA was and displayed models of their cells.

Perrin CISD makes it through first semester

PERRIN – After a tumultuous first semester for schools everywhere, Perrin Secondary Principal Loren Sell announced what nearly everyone in the room was thinking.

“We made it,” Sell said during the Dec. 17 school board meeting. “It was brutal but we had our semester final exams done today.”

Sell praised the work of his staff including cafeteria, custodial, and teachers, all who had to take on different roles this year as part of COVID, but who all did tremendous job.

“I’m ready for January to get here,” Sell said. “I think we’ll ready for more normal to come back.

Work on downtown to continue through possible grant

City officials are prepared and ready to go with some downtown revitalization providing some grant money comes through.

City Manager Mike Smith said the city hadn’t ben prepared due to time constraints on acting on some programs but the possibility of up to $350,000 has the city prepared and ready to go. Depending on the money, new sidewalks, new lighting would be the two major components of the plan. The city would apply for the grant in 2021 and, if approved, get the money in 2022.

Faith Community Hospital (FCH) has recently been awarded a certificate of recognition from the Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) for their participation and commitment to the TexasAIM Plus initiative.

Winter Season Offers Multiple Opportunities for Texas Bird Hunters

AUSTIN — While winter in Texas is often synonymous with spending dawn and dusk in a deer blind, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) wants to remind hunters of the various upland and migratory bird hunting seasons that are still open throughout the colder months.

Hunters can take part in several seasons for a range of species including dove, quail, duck, turkey and Sandhill Cranes. The winter months are also a good time to take part in lesser-utilized seasons, hunting for species like woodcock, rails, gallinules and chachalacas.

Bryson 4-H do well at livestock judging competition

BRYSON – 4-H livestock judgers here did a great job in a recent competition and received their awards Dec. 4.

The school’s intermediate team, made up of Braydee Thorne, Macy Hawkins, Dalton Birdwell, Jaylee Holmes, Kennadee Langhan, and Danzer Behling won last year and defended its title among 27 teams and 75 competitors at the contest held in early November. Club Sponsor Travis Thorne said the judgers stepped up and represented their families and the chapter very well.

Bryson’s competitors overall ranged from 7th to 14th place and in reasons from second to 11th.
