Skylar Furgerson takes over at chamber
Skylar Furgerson had her doubts about applying for the Jacksboro Chamber of Commerce executive director position. Furgerson had been working for Cornerstone Community Action Agency in town for the last five years when her boss Pam Jacobs sent her the information about the position.
City explains new Strategic Plan
The city of Jacksboro is presently working on its strategic plan and budget for the 2025-26 budget year, which begins Wednesday, Oct. 1.
JISD looks at next fiscal year budget
Jacksboro ISD is taking preliminary looks at its 2025-26 budget. With the 2024-25 budget beginning with a $100,000 deficit, Superintendent Brad Burnett says there’s a way the district is trying to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
Free Fishing Day Saturday
The annual Free Fishing Day across public waterways in the state of Texas returns this Saturday for state residents and out-of-state visitors without a fishing license.
The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department said the state has six million acres of public waterways which support recreational opportunities for two million licensed anglers spending an estimated $9 billion annually on fishing-related expenditures.

Bryson ISD discusses SRO, vehicle
A school resource officer and a vehicle for the officer were discussed by Bryson ISD board members at the Monday, May 26 meeting. BISDSuperintendentGreg London said Jack County Sheriff T-Bob Hauger came by to talk about the vehicle to be used by the officer.
City tables action on police chief
Jacksboro City Council members voted to table any action on the hiring of a new police chief. During its Wednesday, May 28 meeting and after a nearly hour-long discussion, the council voted to table the item until its Monday, June 11 meeting.
Court talks civil process cases
With the Jack County Sheriff’s Office handling both city of Jacksboro calls and calls within the county, Constable Clyde Watson will be taking on more of the civil process work. Civil process involves the serving of warrants, finding those individuals and giving them their warrant.
City staff, council discuss budget
Jacksboro city staff and council continued very preliminary discussions on the 2025-26 city budget which will take effect Wednesday, Oct. 1.
Library summer reading program starts
Gladys Johnson Ritchie Library officials were ecstatic with the amount of children that signed up with the summer reading program during registration Tuesday, May 27. Program coordinators Aracely Ochoa and Tayte Ward said nearly 60 children signed up, almost double the 30 the pair were hoping for.
