Sheriff’s office to hire SROs for Jack schools

The Jack County Sheriff’s Office is set to provide school resource officers for all three school districts in the county for the upcoming school year. Jacksboro Independent School District, Bryson ISD and Perrin- Whitt Consolidated ISD each approved a memorandum of understanding that said their district will be responsible for half of the SROs’ salary and operating expenses at $70,000, with the county picking up the other half.

Court approves abatement zone

Jack County commissioners approved an order last week to designate a reinvestment zone for the PK Solar project with hopes to encourage economic growth in the area. Located in the southwestern portion of the county between the Pennington Solar Farm in Bryson ISD and FM 206, the 4,000-acre tract of land lies just south of Halsell Ranch Road.

JISD hires new SRO

In need of a new school resource officer, Jacksboro ISD entered into a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Jack County Sheriff’s Office for one of their deputies. JCSO Deputy Joey Highfill, who had been working in the schools to close the school year after former SRO Daniel Moody left the district, was hired to move into Moody’s position during the Monday, June 9 meeting.
