Teen arrested following pursuit, wreck

Thu, 06/09/2016 - 11:59 am

A car chase Tuesday between Clay and Jack counties resulted in a rollover accident and one teenager in custody.

Jacksboro Police Chief Terry McDaniel said a Dodge SUV, an employee’s vehicle, was stolen from Greystone Park late Monday or early Tuesday.

“Somebody saw which way it went and started looking for it,” McDaniel said. “It had run out of gas in Clay County near Henrietta.”

Police were notified at approximately 9 a.m. Tuesday that Clay County officers had detained two girls ages 14 or 15 associated with that vehicle. McDaniel said the girls gave false names, so a Jacksboro officer went to positively identify them. While en route, police were alerted  that a camouflaged jeep had been stolen from a ranch in Clay County and was heading south toward Jacksboro.

Deputies initiated a pursuit and the vehicle would not yield.

“We made preparations for them to head toward Jacksboro,” McDaniel said. “DPS deployed spike strips and we stopped traffic. The jeep was running at a pretty high rate of speed, tried to avoid the spike strips and rolled twice just south of Greystone.”
