PWCISD board discusses graduation, COVID-19

Tue, 04/28/2020 - 12:17 pm

A final decision on Perrin’s High School graduation is expected to be made in early May.

During its regular meeting Thursday night, which was done via Zoom, Superintendent Cliff Gilmore told board members while other districts had begun making plans, he wanted to wait just a while longer.

“I think if we wait another 10-15 days, we will have a little more clarification from the state,” Gilmore said. “If we wait longer, it should be better and give us more ideas.”

Sometime this week, a survey for seniors and their parents will be going out to get their ideas on graduation. Secondary School Principal Loren Sell said he was curious to get some responses because it looks like meeting in a large group like a normal graduation may not be possible.

Board Member Darren Francis, who works at Region 9 Education Service Center, said Governor Greg Abbott is trying to open things back up quickly. Regardless Francis said it may be best for the seniors if the district limited folks in the gymnasium and not look to pack the gym.
