Perrin-Whitt CISD announces graduation procedure

Perrin-Whitt CISD released its modified plans for senior graduation, junior high graduation, kindergarten graduation and the high school and junior high award assembly on Saturday, May 9, due to COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines.

According to a press release, district officials discussed these events at great length and have said it will be limiting the events to 50% capacity per current restrictions.

Senior graduation will take place at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 22 at the football stadium. According to the release, each graduate will be given tickets for up to 20 guests each with only ticket holders allowed into the stadium.

“The football stadium allows for a total capacity of 632 seats (counting bleachers and chairs at 50% limitations: this equals 316 people allowed in the facility,” the release reads. “The allowable maximum of 316 total people would include graduates, board members and faculty.”

The district will also have social distancing procedures in place at the graduation with family groups allowed to sit together and six feet spacing between family groups.

“We will be live streaming both the junior high and high school graduation ceremonies for those who are not in live attendance,” the press release reads. “People who are ill or currently experiencing symptoms of illness are requested to view the ceremony via the live stream.”

Faith Community Hospital will be providing facemaks and hand sanitizer for everyone in attendance. Those who plan on attending will be required to fill out and turn in a health survey which will be provided to graduates prior to the ceremonies.

Administration will present all awards and scholarships. The school dress code for graduates will be strictly enforced and roses will only be allowed to be given to members of the graduates family group, according to the release.

At the end of the ceremony, all guests will be asked to leave the facility immediately with no group gatherings allowed.

The Junior High graduation will take place at 7 p.m. May 21 at the football stadium.

Each graduate will be provided tickets for up to eight guests with only ticket holders allowed to attend.  Social distancing procedures will be in place at the graduation with family groups allowed to sit together and six feet spacing between family groups, according to the release.

At the end of the ceremony, all guests will be asked to leave the facility immediately with no group gatherings allowed. No dance will follow the graduation ceremony.

The kindergarten graduation will take place from 9 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. May 20 in the elementary gym.

The students and parents will be the only people allowed in the gym with no additional guests. The scheduled time slots will be strictly enforced.

Students will receive a graduation diploma and offered an opportunity to take a picture with a professional photographer on-site which photos can be ordered from.

The High School and Junior High award ceremony will be held in the high school gym at 10 a.m. Aug. 19.

According to the release, all awards for the current school year will be presented then except for graduating seniors; those awards will be incorporated into their graduation ceremony.
