Parent speaks out in favor of athletic department
A Jacksboro parent voiced his support for the present state of the athletic department during the Jacksboro ISD meeting Monday, Nov. 8.
Greg Robinson said he was surprised and disheartened after hearing the community voice their displeasure of the coaches and department during the October board meeting. The meeting drew a full house in the board room interested in what was being said.
Robinson said he couldn’t ask for better role models to his kids and expressed fear that a “seed of doubt” about the department will spread like a cancer.
Other JISD news
The district received a clean audit from auditor Mike Edgin and also a perfect score of 100 from the FIRST rating. Superintendent Dwain Milam said he’s not sure he’s ever been with a district that had a score of 100.
Edgin said the district has a fund balance of 5.1 months. The State recommends a fund balance of between 3-6 months, Edgin said. The district had a major increase in equity which helped it increase its fund balance.
Board President Martha Salmon said it has been a goal to increase that fund balance.
Principals also gave their monthly reports and updates for their campuses. Jacksboro High School Principal Starla Sanders said her enrollment is at 319 and Average Daily Attendance is at 93%, which is status quo for the district. The district has no active cases of COVID-19.
