Junior Tiger/Tigerette program forming

Wed, 08/10/2022 - 12:00 am

Children have wanted to be like athletes for generations, starting out with high school ones. Having someone older to look up to is a positive experience all children can use.

Jacksboro ISD wants to give younger students a chance to do that.

Junior Tigers and Tigerettes is a new mentoring program for boys and girls in grades 1-6. Students wishing to take part will be partnered with a varsity football or volleyball player or cheerleader. The program will give the form of Big Brother/Big Sister approach and give the younger students someone to look up to.

The cost is $30, with discounts offered for having multiple children of a family take part, and includes a T-shirt, meeting time with your assigned player after practice and special recognition at a game. Students will meet their Tiger or Tigerette at the Meet the Tigers event, which will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19 at Tiger Stadium.

Athletes and cheerleaders will be randomly assigned. Forms are due no later than Aug. 11. Those forms can be turned into the main office at the high school, 1400 N. Main St. in Jacksboro.

Meeting time with athletes will be Wednesday Sept. 7, Sept. 28 and Oct. 12, all at 6:30 p.m. Junior Tigers will run through the tunnel at the Friday, Sept. 9 and Friday, Oct. 7 football games versus Peaster and Eastland, respectively.

Junior Tigerettes will be recognized at the Tuesday, Sept. 27 volleyball match with City View.

Junior cheerleaders will be on the field Sept. 9 and Oct. 7 and also attend the Sept. 27 volleyball game.

Another benefit as all junior Tigers and Tigerettes will be allowed free admission to home games of the registered program when wearing their Junior Tiger shirt and accompanied by an adult.

For example, students wearing their junior Tiger t-shirt who are registered with a football player will be able to attend home football games for free.
