JISD receives “clean” financial report

Behind Business Manager Christy Thomas, the Jacksboro Independent School District received a clean opinion regarding financial management statements during its regular meeting Nov. 9.

Mike Hedgen , a certified public accountant, gave the report and said the district was in good shape concerning a rainy day. General Accounting Office practices says entities should have between 3-6 months of operating revenue in case of a rainy day. The district has around $3,521,000 as its general fund balance which is right in the middle of that, Hedgen explained.

In other news, principal reports were given. Jacksboro Elementary School’s enrollment is at 502 with everyone learning remotely. Pre-K numbers are down at the school as they are statewide because of the COVID pandemic to 41 in Jacksboro. Attendance is at 98.1 percent with the remote learning which is higher than normal in the past few months.

37 percent of the school staff is under quarantine until Nov. 16 with 15 percent of the staff confirmed as positive. Superintendent Dwain Milam said the school has 52 percent of its staff unavailable is still planning on using the District UIL Meet Dec. 4 and a writing/spelling competition Nov. 16-19 with all competitions virtual this year, Superintendent Dwain Milam said.

JMS has an enrollment of 267 with 95.7 enrollment. 92 of the students are working remotely with 44 eighth graders, 18 seventh and 29 sixth graders. Principal Sara Mathis reminded those present of upcoming events including semester exams Dec, 15-17.

JHS’ enrollment has an enrollment of 293 and an attendance rate of 95.83 percent. Sixty-three students are either remote learning or quarantined while five students went remote to help younger siblings at home with their work, according to JHS Principal Starla Sanders.
