WICHITA FALLS – “Tough times demand tough talk. Demand tough hearts.” Force Ten by Rush

With 1:03 left and Jacksboro leading a 28-22 thriller over host City View Friday night, Mustang quarterback Isaiah Marks fired a 42-yard strike to Trey Brown to set up firstand-goal at the Tiger 8.

After watching chances at victory disappear at Boyd two weeks before, the aforementioned tough hearts came out in volumes for the Tigers, as the defense held its own in the waning seconds of a 28-22 victory at Veterans Field.

Jacksboro goes to 3-1 with the win while City View falls to 2-2.

in the decisive drive, Dylan Thomas got a hand in on a scrambling Marks on first down. It didn’t seem like much but it slowed the fleet-footed senior just enough to wind up with a four-yard loss. Two plays later, Randall Hamilton came through with his second sack of the night, a 10- yard loss to move the ball to the Tiger 22.

With the game on the line, Marks went to the end zone but a strike was fired out of bounds to turn the ball over and downs and the visitors ran out the clock.

The defense was obviously key to the late stretch by the Tigers.

“Boy, it seemed like Randall was being held by five guys all night long and he still had a chance to get a play like that,” Coach Brannon Rodgers said of the third down play. “We learned a lot after the Boyd loss that we just have to see playing and it paid off tonight.”

Dylan Thomas had three touchdowns offensively on Cjaunts of 20,23, and 1 yard. The Tigers also had two other first half drives shut down inside the City View red zone, which made for another game entirely.

“If we score when we should, we’re up 28-7 in the first half and able to control our destiny,” Rodgers said.

Jacksboro controlled the ball for more than 19 minutes in the first half. but the Mustangs still used a Chris Graham 80- yard touchdown run to tie the game 49 seconds after Thomas bounded to his right for a 20-yard score.

In the third quarter, Marks capped a 60-yard opening drive with a oneyard dive to pay dirt. Less than three minutes later-Thomas had his second touchdown of the game a 23-yard jaunt up the gut to finish a 75-yard, sixplay drive. Randall Bustos’ extra point was true for a 13-all tie midway through the third.

The Mustangs marched 63 yards on the ensuing drive which ended with a 14-yard Marks run. Jacksboro took the lead back with a 57-yard run by Landon Davenport, who led the Tigers in rushing with 168 yards on 22 carries, in the final 30 seconds of the third.

City View used a field goal to go up 22-20 with 9:53 to go and then recovered an onside kick to set up shoot in good field position but the Tigers forced a turnover on downs.

Jacksboro then ate up nearly seven minutes of clock time ion a 12-play, 62-yard drive, culminating in a Thomas1-yard score. Davenport added the conversion for a sixpoint lead.

The Tigers remain on the road Friday to play in Vernon vs. Wellington. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
