Jacksboro Middle School teachers and administrators received their certificate for accomplishing Level 1 certification status of the Marzano High Reliability Schools program. JMS plans to complete Level 2 Spring 2017.

Beginning in the fall of 2015, Jacksboro Middle School was part of a pilot High Reliability Schools program offered through the Region 9 educational Service Center. Funded by the Priddy Foundation, HRS is a systematic program designed to create schools functioning at the highest level possible. There are five levels to the design with Level 1 being Safe and Collaborative schools.

Through surveys and data collected on site, Jacksboro Middle School instituted many changes, beginning with staff professional learning communities, or PLCs. JMS staff meets regularly, as groups of teachers, keeping student progress at the forefront.

Principal Sara Mathis said JMS has improved its safe campus culture and installed new security doors inside the building to prevent intruders while students are in the building.

“This process is ongoing and we are constantly checking our operating procedures while making adjustments to best meet the needs of our students,” Mathis said. “We are working toward Level 2 (Effective Teaching in Every Classroom) certification in the spring and do believe our students are the most worthy benefactors of our efforts.”
