The Jacksboro City Council held public hearings and acted on two zoning changes during their meeting Monday, Jan. 27.

The first part of the hearing was on a request for a conditional use permit to allow senior multifamily housing contingent upon the sale of the property.

“On Hwy. 148 the EDC (Economic Development Corporation) owns some property that is, kind of, right across the east of Tractor Supply,” City Manager Mike Smith said. “That property has actually been rezoned a couple different times based on some programs they were trying to work through.”

He added the property was zoned as commercial/light manufacturing. He said they added the contingency on the sale because they have had multiple deals fall through after a zoning change to accommodate possible projects.

“The P and Z (Planning and Zoning board) considered this and they did recommend approval on that without any comment,” Smith said.

The council also had a hearing and considered a request for a conditional use permit to allow commercial use as a bed and breakfast and quilting retreat at 316 W. Live Oak St.

Smith said as a bed and breakfast, the business will be subject to the Hotel Occupancy Tax which could bring in some more money for the city. He added they had four comments from neighboring property owners and two were in favor and two were neutral.

“P and Z considered it and they are recommending approval and they did not have any conditions that they want to put on it,” Smith said.

The council unanimously voted to approve both changes with council member Cade Cornish not present for the votes.

The planning and zoning committee and the council will have public hearings Feb. 4 and Feb. 10 regarding the final updates to zoning ordinances and the zoning map.
