Piles of rock are built up at the Fort Richardson construction site. Despite the large amount of rock which had to be broken through, Park Superintendent Robert Frie said the project is on pace for its April 18 completion date.

Construction at Fort Richardson State Park’s campsite is making progress and is on pace for their April 18 completion date, according to Park Superintendent Robert Frie.

Frie said the construction was slated to begin Sept. 3 and they were able to get started by the second week of September.

“A lot of rock as we expected, probably a lot more rock than the contractors expected, but they are dealing with it, working with it day-in and day-out,” Frie said. “I would say overall we are probably about 30, 35% complete at this time.”

He said the construction consists of replacing the water and sewage line on the west side of Lost Creek near the campsites and shower house area. He added the construction will also consist of upgrading the sewer manhole to current Texas regulations.

“We are increasing the water line size from two inch to three inch for better water pressure, more stable water pressure throughout the campgrounds back there,” Frie said.

The park superintendent said the lift system needed to be replaced for a long time.
