Debuty finds drugs at store

Wed, 07/24/2019 - 12:27 pm

The Jack County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest late last week resulting from an observance made by an off-duty deputy.
Lt. Michael Francis was making a purchase at a local store and discovered a package containing what is believed to be 1.9 grams of methamphetamine near the register wrapped in a pawn ticket.
After reviewing the store’s security video, it was apparent the person who had been in line in front of Francis had placed the package on the counter and left it there prior to leaving the store.
The pawn ticket had the person’s name and address on it.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s office, a brief investigation resulted in the identification of the subject who had left the drugs at the store as Richard Summers, 50, of Jacksboro, and an arrest warrant was obtained.
Late Friday night, the sheriff’s officers served the arrest warrant at the suspect’s house in the 500 block of Richardson Street in Jacksboro. While making the arrest, deputies saw other drug related items in plain view inside the house.
The property was secured and a search warrant was obtained resulting in the discovery of 4.5 grams of methamphetamine, two illegal firearms and additional charges for Summers as well as information that may lead to the arrest of others.
Summers was charged with possession of a controlled substance in a drug free zone and for felon in possession of a firearm.
Chief Deputy Doug Angell said peace officers are never off the job.
“Even when law enforcement officers are “off duty” they remain vigilant to protecting the lives and property of the residents of Jack County,” the press release read.
