County mourns former treasurer’s passing

Wed, 07/22/2020 - 5:00 am

Former County Treasurer Kim Gibby died Friday morning.

She was active in the Friends of the Jack County Animal Shelter, serving as President and was instrumental in attempting to get a new shelter built. She also served as a weather station volunteer for years.

County Judge Keith Umphress praised Gibby for her work in the Treasurer’s Office during times when funding and flooding were prevalent.

“Kim was a tremendous asset for Jack County as treasurer,” Umphress said via text. “Because of her attention to detail, Jack County received additional FEMA funds when we needed it most.”

Some residents and friends commented on Gibby’s life, including Christine Richardson.

“She was an amazing person to have conversations with,” Richardson offered. “She is one who made my time in Jacksboro fee like I belonged.”

Swan Family Wellness Center Director Joe Copeland said center staff thoroughly enjoyed having Gibby around.

“We thoroughly enjoyed having Mrs. Gibby attend the wellness center almost every single morning to swan in our pool,” Copeland said. “She was always such a great supporter of our programs. We were so sad to hear of her passing.”

Gibby was a fan of the Jacksboro community, making sure her friends and neighbors knew she cared.

“Mrs. Gibby (was a) sweet lady,” Ana Fierro de Salazar remembered on Facebook. “I remember our first Christmas in Jacksboro. She came to our door with some candy she made to wellcome us!!! RIP our sweet neighbor.”

Rebecca Smith said Kim Gibby was the type everybody needed to call their friend.

“She was faithful to prepare food and help serve funeral meals. She was a woman of many talents, she was an excellent photographer,” Smith commented on Facebook. “I could ask her to take pictures, she would always say, where and when. She loved her husband, children and grandchildren. She loved telling stories about each of them, her face would beam with love as she talked. Kim Gibby had a beautiful heart sharing love and kindness everywhere she went. I will miss her.”

Wanda Bartels Jones said Kim was “always smiling, always friendly. She loved her children and grandchildren. As she told me about them her eyes sparkled. She will be missed.”

Funeral information is pending but a reported memorial service in Tioga is planned Aug. 1.
