In an attempt to keep firefighters and their equipment safe at a moment’s notice, city of Jacksboro officials have changed the intersection at Church and College Streets into a four-way stop.

The intersection previously had stop signs on College only. City Manager Mike Smith said the city had been looking at doing something for a while.

“We had concerns with the traffic on Church Street when the fire department needed to get out quickly,” Smith explained. “This should help the problem.”

The signs went up recently, but will be taken down temporarily in the near future, Smith said. The city will be extending the curb along College Street to make the sign heading north on Church Street easier to see.

“We have no date on when to start this but it will be ASAP,” Smith said. “We’ll put the signs up right after we’re done.”
