Cancellations, restrictions announced amid COVID-19 pandemic

With the COVID-19 pandemic sweeping across the nation many Jack County schools, entities, businesses and events have announced cancellations and restrictions despite no cases being reported in the county.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the virus can cause reported mild symptoms to severe illness and death. Some of the symptoms, which can appear 2 to 14 days after exposure, include fever, cough and shortness of breath.

The agency reported there has been a total of 4,226 COVID-19, or coronavirus disease 2019, cases in the United States resulting in 75 deaths. The Texas Department of State Health Services reported a total of 57 cases in the state.

Schools:

Due to a Public Health Disaster declared by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, Jacksboro ISD, Bryson ISD and Perrin-Whitt CISD will all be closed untill atleast Friday, April 3.

Businesses:

All gyms, bars, massage parlors and resturants indoor facilities will be closed until midnight April 3 due to a public health disater declared by the Governor. Residents are encouraged to seek curbside pickup, drive-thru or delivery options from resturants.

The Jack County Courthouse has closed all entrances except the North entrance and entrants will have their temperature checked at the door.

The Jacksboro Chamber of Commerce and Jacksboro Economic Development announced they were going to be closed till further notice.

Concerned Citizens of Jack County has postponed all activites at the center until further notice. The organization will continue to have drive through available for pickup and meals on wheels routes to take food to all age groups.

Dollar General is recommending directing the first hour of operations to the elderly and disabled and closing one hour earlier to allow for cleaning and restocking of shelves.

Swan Family Wellness has been closed until further notice for all workout related groups, private training and 24-hour access. Scheduled and Provider ordered therapies will still take place.

The Faith Community Hospital Cafe dining facility will be closed to the public. Orders can still be made by phone and the order will be delivered to your car outside the facility.

The Green Frog will be closed for the next two weeks and then will be reevaluted.

Texas Parks and Wildlife announced the closures of all state parks including Fort Richardson starting Thursday, March 19.

Events:

Swan Wellness Center's Race for the Gold 5k run planned for Saturday, March 21, has been postponed to Saturday, June 27.

Jury Summons for March 24, 2020 in the 271st District Court it has been cancelled, according to district clerk Tracie Pippin.

The North Texas Go Tell Crusade set for the last week of April has been postponed to a later date.

According to the CDC, steps which residents can take to help prevent the spread of the virus including washing hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using alcohol-based hand sanitizer, avoiding contact with their faces, avoiding contact with people who are sick, staying home when sick, covering a cough or sneeze with a tissue and disposing of the tissue in the trash and by cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces.
