Finding out what busy truly is

The COVID virus has taught everyone about adjustments and being where you have to be when you have to be there.

When games first started getting cancelled, my wife and I absolutely loved spending time together and having maybe 2-3 nights apart in a month. We’d have dinner, play games, watch TV etc.

My colleague Nathan then left the paper in June so I did all the news but there was little or no sports so I was working about the same number of nights for the past few years when I split news and sports.

Tigerettes stave off Archer City in five games

After a rollercoaster of up and down games to start the season, Jacksboro’s varsity volleyballers may have found a way to right the ship:

Get down by a large deficit and then fight their way back.

Twice in their five game marathon with Archer City Aug. 25, the Tigerettes rebounded from a five-point deficit and wound up taking the game twice. After a disastrous performance in their prior match vs. Paradise, Jacksboro rebounded with a 19-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-25, 15-8 win over the visiting Lady Cats at Tiger Gym.

Jacksboro goes to 5-3 on the campaign.

Perrin opens with sweep of Bluff Dale

PERRIN – Looking for its third straight playoff berth, Perrin’s volleyballers started off on the right foot Aug. 11.

The Lady Pirates opened with a straightset win over visiting Bluff Dale 25-10, 25-21, 25-10. Lady Pirate Coach Rebekah Bland said it was good to see the kids back on the court once again.”It gave them a chance to practice with me again, which was really glad to see,” Bland said following the 58-minute match. “We need to practice right now after being gone from any thing for so long.”

Tigerettes lose to Poolville, Boyd

BOYD – In its first road trip of the season Friday, Jacksboro’s varsity volleyball squad took a pair of losses to Poolville and the host Lady ‘Jackets in straight set setbacks.

Brief summaries of both matches follow:

Poolville 25-25-25, Jacksboro 21-16-10

The Tigerettes led 20-15 late in the opener but the Lady Monarchs pulled away and never let the Purple back into the match which took just 63 minutes to complete.

Getting after it

As Queen so eloquently put in one of their classic hits “Another One Bites the Dust”, the 2020 Fall Sports Tab has been put to rest.

It will be out on the streets in the next couple of weeks as part of the regular paper. The Tab will include stories, team photos and schedules from our three county schools. We’re hoping you enjoy it.

As always a lot of sweat, and tears went into it as I’m always wondering if I’m going to have enough to go into it. With the early deadlines this year, I had to scramble to get some of the team pics in.

Uncommon will describe 2020 Jacksboro football season

With everything that has been going on concerning high school athletics so far in 2020, it seems only fitting the 2020 Jacksboro High School team motto is “Uncommon.”

Jacksboro Independent School District Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Brannon Rodgers unveiled the sign during the regular Jacksboro Lions Club meeting Aug. 12. The sign will be placed on every locker room and every door in it.

The belief being that the boys and coaches in the locker room are uncommon.

Dove season opens soon

The opener of dove season has always been a special time for me. When I think back over the past many ‘openers’ I have enjoyed in dove fields from North Dakota to Mexico, my mind is flooded with fond memories of some barrel burning shoots and some hunts where I didn’t fire a shot but it’s the
