Thompson qualifies for Regional with pair of wins

Jacksboro sophomore Baylee Thompson has qualified for two events at the Region I-3A Meet April 27-28 at Abilene Christian University by virtue of wins earlier today at the Area Meet at JHS.

Thompson broke the school record in the shot put Monday afternoon with a 41’6 3/4” effort. Monday morning, she won the discus with a 126’5” throw.

The area meet continues through the evening with running events starting at 5:30 p.m. Jacksboro’s David Massengale runs in the 800-meters starting at 5:45 p.m. while senior Hunter Hackley runs in the 100-meters at around 6:20 p.m.

JHS girls win, boys lose

Jacksboro’s varsity baseball and softball teams gained a split with visiting Nocona Friday night here. The girls remained in the playoff hunt with a 12-8 win while the boys suffered a 4-3 setback.

Jacksboro SB 12, Nocona 8

The Lady Indians wouldn’t go away in trying to garner their first 8-3A victory but three-run outbursts over the final two innings enabled the Tigerettes to go to 6-6 in the loop and 14-12 overall.

Nocona BB 4, Jacksboro 3

Perrin SB bests Bryson, 17-8

PERRIN – Lady Pirate softballers slapped out 21 hits against county rival Bryson April 10, breaking open a close game in the middle innings to take a 17-8 victory over the Cowgirls here.

Kaylie Anderson got the win in the circle for Perrin and led the offensive charge, going 5-5 with five RBIs. Perrin jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first. Bryson got on the board with a single second inning run which Perrin got back in the third.

PERRIN – Lady Pirate softballers slapped out 21 hits against county rival Bryson April 10, breaking open a close game in the middle innings to take a 17-8 victory over the Cowgirls here.

Area track schedule released

The schedule for the Area Track Meet at Jacksboro High Monday has been released. The top four in each event qualify for regionals at Abilene Christian University April 27-28.

Events by time are as follows:

10:15 a.m. Girls 3200 Meter Run

10:45 a.m. Boys 3200 Meter Run

11 a.m. Boys Long Jump, girls discus and pole vault

12:30 p.m. boys shot put and high jump, girls triple jump

2 p.m. Boys discus, pole vault, girls long jump

3:30 p.m. Boys triple jump, girls shot put and high jump

Baseball wins, softball loses in Henrietta

HENRIETTA – Jacksboro’s baseball and softball teams played key District 8-3A games here Tuesday, garnering a split in the process. The girls suffered a 6-4 setback while the baseball team posted a 2-1 win.

Brief summaries of both games follow:

Jacksboro BB 2, Henrietta 1

The Tigers took advantage of four Bearcat errors in the second inning to plate both runs and held off the hosts from there.

Jacksboro is now 7-2 in district and 11-10-1 overall with Henrietta falling to 4-5 and 9-12.

Tigers rout City View

In the midst of a skid where it had lost two of its last three District 8-3A games, Jacksboro’s varsity baseball team took out their frustrations on visiting City View Friday, slapping out 14 hits in an 18-1 victory.

Jacksboro runs its record to 6-2 in the league (10-10-1 overall) while the Mustangs drop to 0-8 and 0-16. Tiger Coach Blake Belcher seemed pleased with his squad following the 1:45 encounter.

“Glad to see we got the bats going,” Belcher said. “Lathan (Lowrance) did a solid job on the hill as well.”
