BISD board approves budget

Bryson ISD school board members approved the 2022-23 budget and tax rate during a meeting Monday, Aug. 29.

The district’s tax rate dropped slightly, from $1.40 to $1.38 per $100 of valuation. The interest and sinking rate remained the same at $0.44 per $100 valuation, with maintenance and operations dropping from $0.9634 to $0. 9441.

Jacksboro ISD board members approved the 2022-23 budget and tax rate during a special called meeting Wednesday, Aug. 31.

The $13,259,158 budget is balanced, according to Business Manager Christy Thomas. She said few changes were made from the preliminary budget submitted to the board earlier in the month.

There some instructional aides added to the next fiscal year budget along with the purchase of some athletic uniforms. Some were able to be paid out of the 21-22 budget, but some will not arrive until the next fiscal year.

More relief coming for tornado victims

The North Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church came to town Aug. 29 to do its part in helping Jacksboro in its tornado relief efforts.

The group was filming videos around the city and talking to those affected by the March 21 tornado in an effort to raise $500,000 for victims. Bishop Mike McKee said he saw a lot of good today.

The videos were made to show the damage. Communications Director Pam Hughes and her video team spoke with Alinda Cox, a member of the local tornado recovery committee, whose home was destroyed in the tornado.

Tigers drop season opener

A large crowd of Jacksboro faithful hit the road Friday night for the 2022 football season opener in Breckenridge. While many were there to see the Tigers do battle with the Buckaroos others were there to see the band, cheerleaders and others display their many hours of hard work over the summer.
