City of Bryson approves Hazard Mitigation Plan

Jack County Emergency Management Coordinator Frank Hefner came before the Bryson city council Monday, March 9 seeking approval of the  Jack County Hazard Mitigation Plan.

The plan was developed in partnership with Nortex Regional Planning Commission. Nortex is helping Jack and 10 other counties, as well as the entities inside of them, to pass the plans. 

County officials examine landscaping renovations

County officials are still looking for a fix-it regarding water drainage in landscaping beds on the north side of the courthouse.

Greg Lewis, with G.A.L. Horticulture, Landscaping and Irrigation Services; spoke before the Commissioners March 9 about some work he had done to decide what to do about the drainage problem. Things have gotten bad in the Extension Agent’s office, where plaster is coming off the walls, and in the Justice of the Peace’s office where water is starting to seep up through the floors.

Jacksboro FCCLA advancing eight teams to state

Jacksboro FCCLA is advancing eight teams to the state competition April 1 in Dallas after qualifying at the regional competition in Waco recently.

The program, led by advisor Rebecca Sell, is coming off two 2019 national titles in Senior Chapter Review Display and Junior Chapter in Review Portfolio.

JHS’s Pardue named TGCA Cheerleader of the Year

It has been a wonderful 2020 for Brynn Pardue.

The JHS sophomore was part of the Jacksboro cheerleading squad which won the Class 3A UIL State Spirit Championship in January. Things got even better on an individual level for Pardue last week when she was named 1A-4A Cheerleader of the Year by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

The award came as quite a shock to Pardue, who has been a cheerleader since the fourth grade.

        FCH officials claim nothing will change after bankruptcy filing

        Despite filing for bankruptcy recently, Faith Community Hospital officials are adamant in claiming nothing will change.

        FCH CEO Frank Beaman and Board Attorney David Spiller said the hospital had no other way to keep the insurance companies, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna and United Healthcare; from stonewalling payments to the hospital, which they said has been going on for more than three years, than to file for Chapter 9 bankruptcy.

        Bryson One Act Play advances to Bi-District

        For the ninth straight year, Bryson High School’s One Act Play will be advancing to the bi-district competition.

        Director Sarah Stearns said her cast and crew consists of 22 students which have been working on their play “Women of Lockerbie” by Deborah Brevoort.

              Four Bryson FCCLA teams going to state

              Bryson High School’s FCCLA program will be sending four teams and six individuals to the state competition on April 1 after a strong performance at the regional competition.

              Bryson FCCLA co-advisor Sarah Stearns spoke about each team and tje projects they completed. She said the team of Lexi Stearns and Audee Pierce placed third in Chapter Service Project Display Level 3 (Grades 11-12) with their working all year long to have a brighter Christmas project.

              PUC rules against city of Bryson

              The Public Utility Commission of Texas made a decision Thursday, Feb. 27, in the dispute between the city of Graham’s wholesale water customers including the city of Bryson and the city of Graham related to an appeal filed in October 2017. The commissioners made a decision based on a memo filed by Chairman DeAnn Walker Wednesday, in which she agreed with the administrative law judges ‘opinion in favor of the city of Graham.

              Entities to join efforts for high school lighting

              Jacksboro ISD, the Jacksboro City Council, the Jack County Commissioners Court and Faith Community Hospital are banding together in hopes of getting lights placed in front of the Jacksboro High School on U.S. 281.

              During the Feb. 24 city council meeting, City Manager Mike Smith said he has been putting together letters with the other entities to send to the Texas Department of Transportation.

              City Council meeting cancelled

              The city of Jacksboro has announced that tonight's, March 9, city council meeting has been cancelled due to an expected lack of quorom.

              Some of the issues which were set to be discussed included the annual police racial profiling report, a resolution for certificates of obligations to be posted, approving the new amended zoning ordinance, a closed session regarding the position of the Chief of Police and lighting on North Main Street among other things.
