Live Oak Baptist hosts clinic

The Texas Department of State Health Services will be conducting an immunization clinic at Live Oak Baptist Church on Thursday, August 20th. This clinic will be by appointment only, no walk-ins will be accepted. Please call our Archer City office at 940/574-2159 to schedule an appointment. All clients/guardians will be screened for COVID-19 symptoms and temperatures upon entry to the facility. The client areas will be disinfected between each client/family.

Jacksboro Has Welcome Mat Out For Week End Spring Roundup

Jacksboro has been busy during the past week getting the welcome mat ready and out and the visitors already are arriving for the annual Spring Roundup staged by the National Association of Sheriff Posses and Riding Clubs.

Starting with an officers meeting Thursday night, the horse fanciers and their families will spend two big days with their playday games at two arenas.

Perrin announces its tentative back to school plans School starts Aug. 27

PERRIN – After much discussion of community fear and trepidation heading into the upcoming 2020-21 school year, board members here decide to give teachers another eight days to prepare for the start of school.

The first day of school was moved from Aug. 19 on the original calendar to Aug. 27. Much of the two-hour regular meeting had to do with the proposed plan for school. Superintendent Cliff Gilmore told board members that he had heard several concerns from teachers from surveys handed out to decide to delay the start of school by a week.

Perrin CISD lunch prices to go up this year

PERRIN – Lunch prices here will be increasing for the next school year after a board member approved increase during the July 23 board meeting.

Lunch prices for students will go up from $2.62 to $2.75 with adults increasing $3.52 to $4, a 48 cent increase. Prices were raised to meet what the federal government said should be charged.

Board members also approved a proposed Maintenance and Operation tax rate of 95.07 cent per $100 valuation and a 20.65 Interest and Sinking tax rate for the upcoming school year for a $1.15.72 tax rate.

New things announced at Back to Space

For the second time in a bit more than a month, Back To Space officials were in Jacksboro July 24 to tell citizens on what they are planning.

Work on the 17.5-acre site is expected to begin shortly. City Manager Mike Smith said TXDOT has bgun putting up signs for the roadwork for turn lanes into the site which should begin soon.

Work on the first segment should be complete within 6-10 months and include a gift shop, according to Back to Space President Michael Gorton. The $1.5 million will be funded by selling equity in the company.

Parents, fans ready for HS sports

Without a shadow of doubt area parents are ready to get some local sports on the field and court.

July 21, the UIL announced all school in Classes 1A-4A could begin their practice and game schedules as normal, allowing them to begin play in August. For the larger schools, who won’t be starting until September which it seems like many of their schools’ academic year won’t either, it’s going to be a significant delay.

Fishing license purchases up

AUSTIN – With more Texans heading to the water during quarantine to recreate and physical distance naturally, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has seen an uptick in fishing license purchases compared to this time last year. Recognizing this, TPWD has expanded its outdoor education curriculum to include online classes open to new anglers wanting to learn about fishing before heading to Texas waterways.
