Candidates for two Jacksboro Independent School District positions had a chance to talk about why they’re running for school board during a candidate forum April 19. Incumbent Travis Jonas is being challenged in Place 1 by Bart Gavit with LeAnn Johnson running unopposed in Place 2.

Last bond issue meeting held

Jacksboro ISD Superintendent Brad Burnett hosted the final bond issue town hall meeting Wednesday, April 19 at the Jacksboro Middle School Auditorium. The district is asking voters in a May 6 election for $47.5 million for renovations at all three schools including new bathrooms at Jacksboro Elementary School, reconfiguring JMS by tearing down non load bearing walls in the round building and increasing classroom size.

JMS 7th grade track competes at district

Jacksboro Middle School 7th grade boys and girls competed in their district track meet last week. 7th grade boys The squad as a whole finished 3rd behind Henrietta and Vernon.

LTRC provides update

Case workers with the Long Term Recovery Committee gave an update on the numbers of people being assisted during their Thursday, April 13 meeting. Twenty-six homes were destroyed with 15 needing to be rebuilt right now.

Student assessment and how accurate state testing truly is was the focus of a large part of the Jacksboro ISD board meeting Monday, April 10. All three principals gave reports on how their testing has gone this year.

Council receives audit

City of Jacksboro officials received a clean financial audit for the 2021-22 fiscal year. Mike Edgin with the accounting firm of Edgin, Parkman, Fleming and Fleming, PC told city council members at their April 10 meeting said the city’s audit was unmodified and with a clean opinion.

Burnett discusses bond with Lions

In front of the largest bond issue crowd he had spoken to, Jacksboro ISD Superintendent Brad Burnett gave information about the bond issue Wednesday April 12 to the Jacksboro Lions Club. Early voting for the May 6 election for the $47.5 million bond issue runs April 24-May 2 at the Jack County Courthouse Room 104.

Track qualifies for area

District 7-3A track meet was held last week in Iowa Park with several Jacksboro athletes qualifying for the area meet Thursday, April 20 in Jacksboro. The field events were held April 10 along with the running finals April 13.

Area track schedule
