Falling short

GRAHAM – With a Holliday win in the May 29 opener, which set up a winner take all game three in the Region I-3A Final, a packed house at Lady Blues Field set themselves for a rock and roll battle.

Jacksboro, which had won the series opener two nights earlier in a 14-3 rout, had just taken a 10-3 setback on the chin in Saturday’s first game. Most supporters figured it would be a tight matchup in the sixth and final meeting of the year between the two squads.

Errors hurt Tigerettes as Holliday forces Game 3

GRAHAM – In its three prior games, Jacksboro’s softballers did not commit a single error heading into Game 2 of the best-of-three series with Holliday.

It remained the same into the fifth inning of the contest, the Purple holding a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the frame. Things then fell apart for the Tigerettes as three Jacksboro errors was the beginning of the end for the squad, Holliday using a total of five miscues and a total of nine hits in its final two at bats to post a 10-3 victory and even the series at a game apiece.

Lady Eagles fly away with title

GRAHAM – Holliday took a page from Jacksboro’s playbook Saturday, winning a pair of games when on the verge of elimination to knock the Tigerettes from the Class 3A softball playoffs.

The Lady Eagles (39-2) won Saturday’s opener, 10-3 and came back in the nightcap to post a 4-0 victory, ending Jacksboro’s campaign at 35-11.

Tigerettes roll over Holliday in opener

GRAHAM – It’s been said that offense wins games, but defense wins championships.

Jacksboro had quite a lot of both Thursday evening in game one of the Region I-3A final with District 7-3A mate Holliday, stroking out 10 hits and taking advantage of six Lady Eagle errors. The squad’s error-free defense did the rest in a 14-3, five-inning victory before a standing room only crowd at Lady Blues field in Graham.

Taking a Holliday

LUBBOCK – History does repeat itself.

The last time Bushland had lost was March 5, when it lost to a pair of Class 6A schools at the home team in a tournament.

Saturday at Plains Capital Park, Jacksboro, which had lost game one (page 8) of the best-of-three Class 3A Region I semifinal series the night before, was visitor twice. The Tigerettes pulled out a pair of wins, 5-3 and 8-6, to knock the Lady Falcons (30-4-1) from the playoffs.

Several Tigers named to 7-3A All-District teams

After the first playoff berth in three years, a number of Jacksboro Tiger baseball players were selected to the District 7-3A All-District Teams released last week.

Freshman Jackson McComis received Co-Newcomer of the Year honors. Selected as a first-team player was freshman Peyton Kinman at second base and classmate Kaleem Howard in the outfield.

Second-team nods were given to Baylor Laake at pitcher, Lando Belcher at catcher, Christian Wiggins at third base, Aaron Harmonson in the outfield and Taber Dunn as designated hitter.

Miller set to become JISD Head Athletic Trainer

Madalyn Miller, an assistant athletic trainer, will be taking a head athletic trainer job at Jacksboro High School this summer.

Miller will take over in Jacksboro after the conclusion of the school year or baseball season, whichever happens later. Currently, the Steers baseball team are in the Class 4A area playoffs against Springtown. The last day of school is May 28.
