Tigerettes fall to Boyd on the road

BOYD – After a five-set win at City View two weeks ago, Jacksboro’s varsity volleyball squad has fallen on hard times, losing four straight District 8-3A matches.

The latest came Tuesday evening to 7th-ranked Boyd, which remained perfect in district action with a 25-7, 25-9, 25-10 win. The Tigerettes drop to 1-5 in loop play with the Lady ‘Jackets going to 6-0.

Jacksboro took quick leads in games one and two on Carly Hart’s serves but the hostesses took control early in the games, breaking serves with thunderous kills and then going on long serving runs.

Perrin falls to Nocona

PERRIN – Any coach will tell you no one gets better playing weaker teams.

Perrin stepped up Sept. 23, hosting Class 3A Nocona and gave what they had vs. the Indians but the visitors had too much in the tank getting out to a 17-0 lead en route to a 37-14 win over the Pirates.

It was Perrin’s second consecutive loss to drop the team to 3-2 heading into district play at Ranger Oct. 7.

Tigers prepare for Boyd

Every season has a turning point. Be it good or bad.

Jacksboro opened its season with three consecutive wins before a tough 18-7 loss Sept. 23 at Bowie. Tiger Mentor Brian Hodnett said there were so many chances to win the game but he and his staff are treating the game as a turning point for what they hope are bigger and better things.

“Everyone was extremely frustrated Friday night. We all knew we could play better than we did,” Hodnett stated. “ ... we missed several opportunities that could have changed the game."

Bryson corrals Woodson

BRYSON – Benches speak louder than anyone ever considered.

Woodson came to town Friday as a heavy underdog to the unbeaten Cowboys. Bryson, thinking they had the Homecoming game in the bag, came out very flat and the visiting Cowboys took advantage to tie the hosts at 16 after one quarter.

Bryson goes to 4-0

GORMAN – Bryson remained on the road Sept. 16, heading for Gorman in a neutral site game with Brookesmith.

The Cowboys continued their torrid start to the campaign, ending another game by mercy rule with a 52-6 win in a game ended at the half. Bryson is now 4-0 for the season.

Coach Jason Briles said the game went as planned.

Jacksboro prepares for Bowie

During football season, no coach gets a break.

Even when there is an opportunity to have one.

Jacksboro’s coaches worked diligently during their off week last week getting their charges ready for Friday night’s road game at Bowie. The coaches even took the scheduled  “night off” Friday to scout not one but two other games with four teams the Tigers will be seeing in the coming weeks.

Perrin falls from unbeaten ranks

COLLINSVILLE – Collinsville’s Jesus Hernandez is listed as 5’9”, 156 pounds. To Perrin Sept. 16, he looked a lot bigger.

The senior running back had two rushing touchdowns and two receiving touchdowns for the host Pirates and had another interception for a score negated by penalty in a 50-14 win over Perrin at the Stephenson Athletic Complex here.

Both teams are now 3-1 overall. Perrin Coach Joe Merrett called it one of those nights where if it could go wrong it did.
