With baseball being my 2nd favorite sport and Spring Training a couple weeks away, the eternal question remains:
Are we going to have a full season? And if so, will fans be invited into the party?
I never through the abbreviated season last year of a couple high school tournaments and a few summer league games would have me grateful but it did. Things started falling apart last March in Archer City when all the college conference tournaments were being canceled as our lives were changed forever due to the pandemic.
I had planned to go to concerts and probably some games last summer as Heather and I do every summer. The kibosh was put on that. I was glad for a wedding in October back home just to be able to travel out of the house along with a couple cabin trips around the area.
That at least got us out of the house and kept us from suffering cabin fever. I know folks around my apartment complex that did nothing last summer but work, go to the complex pool, and sleep.
With the story on Channel 8 the other night on the 74-year-old guy who played catch with some of the Rangers, Heather and I were discussing are we going to be able to see a game at the ball park.
Not necessarily in Arlington, although tickets should be easier to get than in Houston, but just a chance to see a professional sporting event. Would love a chance to see the Rangers’ new yard now that it’s enclosed and you don’t stand a good chance of dying if you attend after Mother’s Day.
Granted, it’s an arm and a leg to see a pro sporting event and they all have their issues (except the NHL). The teams are still determining whether to have a season and how long it should be.
Last I heard they wanted to delay the season a month and cut the number of games to 154.
You’ve already cut the number of minor league teams by 25 percent earlier this year and now this.
If they don’t have games, how about a chance to watch a road game, have the vendors bark food choices in the stands and watch the game? Heck, I’d pay $10-$15 to sit in the stands at Arlington and watch a game at “The Bank” in Detroit if ballpark food was served.
Be a way to get some folks who need a job back to get it and fans can watch the game other an on television. Just a thought.
That’s about it for this week. As always, thanks for listening.
See y’all down the road.
