Uncommon will describe 2020 Jacksboro football season

Wed, 08/19/2020 - 5:00 am

With everything that has been going on concerning high school athletics so far in 2020, it seems only fitting the 2020 Jacksboro High School team motto is “Uncommon.”

Jacksboro Independent School District Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Brannon Rodgers unveiled the sign during the regular Jacksboro Lions Club meeting Aug. 12. The sign will be placed on every locker room and every door in it.

The belief being that the boys and coaches in the locker room are uncommon.

“We are of Christian character and we have asked them to stand out in a Christian manner every day,” Rodgers said.

Rodgers says there are 81 players playing ball, the players excited to get back into the locker room and missing their friends since Corona Virus. The Tigers, who won the district title last year, have nine starters back on both sides of the ball and around 20 players who played on the 9th grade team four years ago.

“We’re gonna have lots of veteran leadership,” Rodgers said. “We’re getting back to basics.”

With many of the teams on the schedule, Rodgers quipped that Jacksboro buses will be going all over the State of Texas to play. Jacksboro’s sub varsities will be playing in Burkburnett, Bridgeport, and Seymour just to name a few.

For those parents and grandparents who don’t like to travel for varsity games, Rodgers said they will be able to buy a subscription to NFHS, which will be live-streaming home games for Jacksboro, using the radio broadcast to provide live, play by play action.

“You can tell people you’re on televisions,” Rodgers said. “You’re going to be able to watch Jacksboro games or anyone who’s on the NFHS network.”
