WALTERS, Ok. – Blake Belcher figured out how to get his team’s bats going again: cross state lines.

Jacksboro’s baseball coach and his team made the 100-mile trip here April 26 after totaling just nine hits in the last two District 7-3A games. The Tigers picked up nine hits in a 10-run first inning which put the Purple in command and enroute to a 15-1 victory over the Blue Devils.

Jacksboro went to 14-8 with the win with Walters, the two-time defending Oilfield Conference champs, falling to 11-10. Walters has had issues with District 7-3A teams, losing to Holliday 15-0 earlier this year.

Kaleem Howard opened the first with a walk and stole second. Lando Belcher brought him home with a double down the left field line. Jackson McComis moved Belcher to third with a single. Christian Wiggins singled him home for a 2-0 lead. Josh Pierce then reached upon a shortstop’s error which plated McComis and Wiggins for a 4-0 lead.

Mason McAnear’s single scored Pierce while Cody Frie beat out an infield single. Frie and McAnear scored as Howard doubled for a 7-0 lead. Swan traded places with Howard with another double down the left field line to bring home the eighth run of the frame. Back to back singles from Belcher and McComis scored Swan with Belcher coming home after Wiggins reached on a second baseman’s error. A popup to second ended the rally.

Walters had baserunners in every inning but Jacksboro used double play balls and timely strikeouts to get out of jams. Walters had just four hits with Karson Coleman coming through with a pair of them to lead the Blue Devils.
