A 17-0 third quarter run brought Jacksboro back from the precipice vs. Class 2A Electra, the visitors taking advantage of a slow start shooting (20 percent in the first half) by the hosts.

Jacksboro was able to use the skein to fuel a 22-point lead early in the fourth. Even that wasn’t enough as the host Tigers went back to their somewhat lackadaisical ways which brought Electra close but it wasn’t enough as Jacksboro remained unbeaten with a 61-55 victory.

After converting six of 30 first half shots, somehow Jacksboro found itself in a one possession game down 23-20. The squads traded buckets, Jacksboro’s coming from Landon Davenport before the run commenced with a Jordan Yount three-pointer with 5:05 left in the third.

A pair of Daylan Valles’ hoops pushed the lead to four. Rylan Chalmers and Paul Shackelford pushed the lead into double figures but it was a pair of Davenport buckets that helped extend the lead to 42-25 before Electra snapped the skein with its first basket of the quarter to cut the lead to 42-27 as the fourth quarter commenced.

Chalmers banged home two buckets and a three-pointer in the first 1:05 as the lead ballooned to 49-27. Just when it seemed Jacksboro had taken enough control, Electra came storming back, getting within eight twice in the waning moments.

Shackelford’s three-pointer extended the lead to 11 with 2:29 remaining. Electra came within eight once again but Jacksboro answered with a nice Chalmers drive to the bucket to go up 60-50.

Jacksboro tried to delay but Electra was able to get the ball back and score twice, once just before the buzzer, but it wasn’t enough.

Jacksboro had a miserable shooting first quarter, missing its last seven shots in what was a 2-14 frame. Electra, on the other hand, used a pair of three pointers to finish a 6-13 stanza to grab a 15-7 cushion after one.

Yount’s pair of buckets cut the lead back to three early in the second. A valley left-handed drive brought the Purple within one in the final minute, but the Tigers missed 12 of their last 13 shots from the field to keep Electra up three at the break.

Chalmers had 20 points, Yount 17 points ad Valles 12.
