Tue, 08/03/2021 - 7:05 pm

After a third-place finish in District 5-3A Division II in 2020, Jacksboro is predicted to move up a spot in 2021 by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.

The magazine had defending champ Eastland winning the title once again. The two teams meet in Jacksboro Friday, Oct. 22. A brief summary of what DCTF predicts for the Jack County teams’ chances this year follow.

Jacksboro

Coach Brannon Rodgers. Twenty lettermen return, including five offensive and five defensive starters from a 6-5 bi-district finalist.

Players to watch OL/DLs Camron Reeves, Andrew Olivarez, Riley Miller, Andru Botello, William Goree, Joseph Dunn, Devon Green, RB/DBs Baylor Laake, Cody Frie, Paul Shackelford, Colt Kaker, QB/LB Christian Wiggins, TE/DL Antonio Luna, QB/DB Lando Belcher, RB/LBs Gage Owen, Domanik Hammond.

2021 notes: Rodgers’ team has big time veterans returning that played huge roles last year at key positions. OL/DLs Reeves and Olivarez all be responsible for setting the tone in the trenches that the rest of the team will surely follow.

In District 9-A, Saint Jo is picked to win the district with Perrin second and Bryson fourth.

Perrin

Coach Ben Staggs. Ten lettermen return, including three offensive and two defensive starters from a 4-6 team.

Players to watch: RB Tyler Welch, RB/DB Landon Draper, OL/DL Brock Adair, QB/DB Cameron Tune, WR/DB Cason Hodges, OL/DL Dylan Trammell, QB/DL Logan Turner.

2021 notes: The Pirates will rely on a trio of seniors in Welch, Draper, and Adair to help take the pressure off an other wise young squad this fall. QB/DB Tune and QB/DL Turner will battle early on for the starting quarterback role.

Bryson

Coach Slade Egan. Three lettermen return with no starters from a 5-5 bi-district finalist.

Players to watch: QB/DB Chance Hand, RB/LB Trever Shults, OL/DL Noah Justus, RB/DBs Tanner Burby, Jameson Pierce, C/DL Evan Ford.

2021 Notes: The Cowboys youth, while a challenge this year, will also help as they’re hungry and have a strong work ethic. QB/DB Hand and RB/LB Shults will help set the tone for the young squad.
